History of Holmeswood
Holmeswood Baptist Church grew from a mission of Wornall Road Baptist Church on the 16-acre site of 97th Street and Holmes Road in Kansas City Missouri. Reverend Jack Wilson and 22 folk from Wornall Road pioneered the mission church, beginning April 11, 1954.
Several months later, September 11, 1955, Holmeswood Baptist Chapel became a self-sustaining church, with a donation of 3.5 acres by Wornall Road. A permanent building was erected and dedicated September 8, 1957 and in 1960 an educational wing was added. Membership grew from 124 to 353.
Through the dedicated leadership of Dr. Wilson and five other ministers, Holmeswood has initiated various missions, youth, music and community programs. Additional expansion and remodeling of the facilities have provided a place of worship and service in the community.
Holmeswood has ordained women and men to deacon ministry and the gospel ministry, welcomed Russian ministry, sent members to various countries around the world on missions trips and has faithfully maintained its mission presence in the community.
Now with a resident membership of 975, Associate Pastors of Worship and Arts, Youth and Missions, Faith Development and Senior Pastor, Holmeswood envisions greater service at home and abroad . making disciples, baptizing and teaching them to observe all that God has commanded.
